Viewers Watched 7 Billion Minutes Of ‘Stranger Things’ In Week After Season 4 Debut, Breaking Nielsen Streaming Record

Stranger Things racked up 7.2 billion minutes of streaming viewership in the U.S. from May 30 to June 5, after the fourth season premiered on May 27, Nielsen said Friday, the highest one-week total since the company began tracking data two years ago.

In May, Nielsen said Stranger Things had joined two other shows, Tiger King and Ozark, ins surpassing 5 billion viewership minutes in a week. The latter two surpassed that benchmark in March 2020, as coronavirus lockdowns were first setting in. Nielsen previously said most of Stranger Things’ premiere-week viewership came from the fourth season. Netflix reported that Stranger Things 4 broke several internal records, including largest opening weekend for an English-language show and largest viewership for an English-language show in its first 28 days on the platform.
