Menelik Shabazz Death – Cause ofr Death – Passed Away: UK producer Menelik Shabazz, known as a pioneer in the advancement of contemporary Black British film, has kicked the bucket matured 67.

Shabazz’s demise was affirmed to Screen by his girl, film custodian Nadia Denton, who said he passed on in Zimbabwe of diabetes-related intricacies.

Shabazz enlisted at the London International Film School yet was simply ready to go to for a brief period, as his nearby London committee would not give him the ‘optional award’ required.

Yet, having been motivated during that brief period to seek after filmmaking, he made his first short in 1976, Step Forward Youth, about Black young people in London.

In the wake of making Burning An Illusion, Shabazz helped to establish the Ceddo Film Video Workshop in 1982 with a dream to enable Black film creation, preparing and film screenings. Subsidized by UK telecaster Channel 4 and the British Film Institute, Ceddo made film creation and local area preparing drives, and facilitated various screenings with producers including Spike Lee.

He moved away from filmmaking in 1998 in disappointment, having been not able to raise subsidizing from inside the business to create further show highlights.

Shabazz went on the distribute Black Filmmaker magazine, which ran for a very long time, and established the BFM International Film Festival in 1999, which kept going 11 years.

In 2007, Shabazz went to Nigeria to work with financial backers and produce film projects in Nollywood, reigniting his enthusiasm for filmmaking. The next year, he started work on include narrative The Story Of Lover’s Rock, about reggae in the UK, which was delivered in 2011.
